Three Capitals Program is our unique academic tour of the UK covering the best sights that Great Britain has to offer. Students visit the capital cities of England, Scotland and Wales as well as the historic city of York, the picturesque Lake District and the mysterious Stonehenge.

London (1 day in the beginning of the program and 3 last days of the program)
The programme begins in London, a city full of history, culture and some of the finest architecture in Europe. Students will be able to experience the best of all that London has to offer with planned trips to the Tower of London, shopping in Oxford Street, a West End Musical and a visit to Shakespeare’s Globe.
York (1 day)
After the first night in London the programme takes students to York, a city with a long history including Viking invasions and major roles in both the English Civil war and the Wars of the Roses. Like London, York still has many ancient buildings including York Minster which dates back to 1338. Students will also walk along “the Shambles”, a collection of streets 700 years old lined with timber framed buildings.
Edinburgh (6 days)
The longest stay of the programme is in Scotland’s capital city. Built around an extinct volcano Edinburgh was the home of Scottish Kings since the 11th century AD until James I became the monarch of both countries in 1603 and ruled from London. The city hosts the world famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August which attracts tourists to its amazing variety of shows and performances. Students will explore the historic city centre, Edinburgh Castle, Holyrood Park and will also watch a show at the Fringe festival.
The Lake District (1 day)
The Lake District is one of the most beautiful and famous examples of the English countryside and is a designated National Park. The area is renowned for its beautiful landscapes which inspired the famous English poet William Wordsworth and the other romantic poets of the 19th Century. Students will stay at the Youth Hostel in Ambleside which is located on the banks of Lake Windermere, the largest natural lake in England. During the stay in the Lakes students will go on a boat tour on Lake Windermere which offers some stunning views of this scenic landscape.
Cardiff (2 days)
Cardiff is the largest city in Wales and boasts a wealth of cultural and sporting institutions. As part of the stay in Cardiff students will visit Cardiff Castle which is almost 1000 years old. Students will also be able to get a glimpse of life as it used to be in Wales with a visit to the National History Museum of Wales.
Activities
As part of the programme students will also visit some popular tourist attractions en route to the various locations. After visiting the Lake District students will have a tour of Old Trafford stadium, the home of Manchester United. At the stadium students will be able to sit in the dressing room that has seen such great football players as George Best, Eric Cantona and of course, David Beckham. During the final leg of the journey, from Cardiff to London students will stop off at Stonehenge; the mysterious stone circle thought to be about 5000 years old.
Alongside the visits to the various attractions in the cities there will be an activities programme for when students are on-site. The evening activity programme has been carefully designed to improve students’ English language learning as well as their cultural understanding of Great Britain, but most importantly to let them have fun and make friends. In Scotland there will be a Ceilidh (a traditional Scottish dance) that has proven as popular with students as it has with our  staff in previous years!
Academics
Three Capitals Programme includes a full academic programme with 30 hours of English tuition and project work. The classroom lessons will take place when students are in Edinburgh over the five and a half days. Further English tuition will take place in some of the evenings and during the Three Capitals project work session, culminating in a project presentation on the final day of the programme.
